1. On Tuesday, NPS spokesperson Mike Litterst said D.C. Police and U.S. Park Police requested to shut down the park because of a pattern of disorderly and destructive behavior during previous Pride weekends. In 2023, the park's historic fountain was vandalized during Pride weekend, causing $175,000 in damages. Litterst said that incident was part of the decision to keep the park closed for WorldPride.

2. Stonewall was a riot!
It's not Pride if you are following the State's rules. Either you aren't oppressed and you don't need Pride, or you are oppressed and being shut down by the police is the reason you are turning out.

Ive been going to dupont circle off and on for at least 15 years to people watch. My favorite people watching was the day of the parade until last year. Too many people doing destructive things to a beautiful city park. Glad it's being closed this weekend.
