Help me with this cocktail themed attire please

Anonymous
I am an over thinker (and have OCD) and HATE that about me. We are invited to a cocktail engagement party at a very fancy place, a very high end club.
I am out of town with my son for a sports tournament and wont' be back until Sat morning. The party is Sat evening. I have a very pretty light blue slightly ruffled maxi dress with a black belt which I am planning on wearing. It feels kind of ethereal but is very pretty and summery. A friend of mine now has me second guessing everything saying I should wear short and black? Help!
I have no time to start looking and i thought this dress was perfect for a summer dressy cocktail party- thoughts?

Do you mean a night club, a private members only club or a country club?

Its hard to picture what you're describing. This isn't some cheap old navy maxi dress right?

+1

The more details you can give us about the venue, the better.

A very high end social club. Formal. No this is a dress from Alberta Ferreti made of silk chiffon in a soft blue it hits the ankle and soft cascading ruffles with a pretty dressy thin embroidered belt.

Personally, I think the dress you have sounds lovely and perfect. I'd wear it. So sick of "short and black."

Pastel, ruffles, and chiffon seem more daytime wedding to me than swanky evening event.

I think a LBD would be more appropriate but also kind of boring. I'd pick something short or midi length. A skirt and top could work if you don't have another dress.

A skirt and top for a high end cocktail party? No.

but its to the ankle and is a soft blue with a black thin belt and sleeves...wish i had a picture. to me, it looks elegant, and cocktail-y. black feels so wintry. and a skirt and top feels corporate. it reminds me of something Kate Middelton would wear, very lady like and very feminine.

Inside or outside? This reads more outside to me but honestly it just depends on what others are wearing.

I am not sure what you mean by social club. Like...Metropolitan? Cosmos?

Your blue dress sounds very pretty - who cares if everyone wears black, they're boring (and I don't think they will)

Op don’t give this another thought. It’s June. A short black cocktail dress would be inappropriate let alone boring as hell.
