In the Washington Post this morning there was an article about the Robinson - John Lewis regional semifinal, which Robinson won to qualify for states for the first time since 2012.
What really stood out thought were all the references to the red cards--it sounded like a wild game. Anyone have details as to how egregious the cards were/what caused them? I did see one of them was a second yellow to a player who got called for simulation -- kudos to the referees for calling them out on it! |

Refs were amazing in that game. The article doesn't really do the night justice.
The first cards weren't crazy, the one Lewis kid got a red after two yellows. The second yellow for flopping. The night went sideways after some pretty basic fighting for the ball happened near the Lewis bench. It may not even have gotten a card if the Lewis bench wouldn't have cleared and started a fight. Then there seemed to be a lot of fan, coaches, kids going nuts on the Lewis side that led to Lewis fans chucking bottles at the Robinson kids. Night ended with Robinson parents and kids having to wait until Lewis fans cleared the stands and quite a few police cars. |
| Thanks--it's an emotional sport for players and fans alike. Hopefully nobody was hurt and great to hear they had a good crew working the match. |
Futbol Familia has an interesting video on YouTube covering the match between Lewis and Hayfield. Highlighted a few times where they felt that Lewis deserved some chats at least but ended the game apparently with no cards and Hayfield ended up with a bunch. https://youtu.be/DgO9ZHkcINg?si=_0adTh1UoQiuqnbc |
| This is good to hear. In my experiences, the refs usually swallow their whistle during HS playoff games. Makes for some brutal games. The refs need to be consistent and maintain order even more so during playoffs, because the tensions are always higher. Players and fans alike. |
This exactly. It wasn’t crazy until the skirmish that ended in at least two more red cards. The remainder of the game was canceled; and the Robinson kids were sent out a back gate for safety. |

It was an exciting, fast paced game. Robinson was probably the underdog, but they were tenacious and matched Lewis’ speed and aggressive game.
I left before the mini brawl, but I heard the Lewis fans got out of control, throwing water bottles and debris at the Robinson players after the skirmish, and that was the reason the game was called early. If true, their fans disqualified their team from making a comeback. Pathetic. |
Unfortunately it was true. |

Class 5 Robinson lost last night to wakefield. Herndon moves on beating West potomac. Lightridge and Riverside both moves on for Class 4.
NOVA soccer holding strong. |
| Is there a way to see the bracket online? |
| Robinson is class 5? I thought all the fcps hs were class 6? |
|
Think the poster of the classes was one off. Robinson, wakefield, basically FFX is class 6 and the Loudoun schools are generally class 5. Pretty cool to see them do well.

Herndon, Wakefield, and Garfield all in the state semifinals

| Meridian plays in their state semifinal today. |
| I heard the Lewis coach received a red card for grabbing a Robinson player around the neck. |
