RSM v AoPS for Summer Math Help

Anonymous
Our DS is not strong in Math and taking Prealgebra in the fall. Does anyone have experience to share on the prealgebra summer classes or camps for Russian School of Math and/or Art of Problem Solving?

No direct experience with RSM; you may want to look at Mathnasium too. AOPS is an amazing program but I would only recommend it for kids who are very strong in math and are basically bored with school math.

I think several of these are aimed at strong math students interested in accelerating rather than students looking for support.

Yeah, this is not the purpose of RSM or AOPS. I think your kid would have a frustrating experience in both programs, which will likely move at a fast pace. I hope you find something that's a good fit!

+1. These are meant for enrichment, acceleration, or replacement(think homeschool). Not remediation or support.

I’d say mathnasium or 1:1 tutor depending on time/ finances. RSM and AoPS are not remedial. It might be even more discouraging!
