Is "New Hope Academy" one of those fake basketball schools?

Isn't it associated with the Moonies?

It looks like it. It’s completely online, but this sort of thing seems to work for some kids so I’m not really knocking it. I’m wondering if this new trend is here to say.

A coach affiliated with this “school” suckered my son’s friend into transferring there from his large public. Parents agreed to it. His “school” schedule lasts a couple hours then they train or practice for hours.

I guess so but he’s already big. Maybe his parents think it’s a better way to get admitted into a private school, with scholarship $, for sports.

I think representative from these schools prey on naive or clueless sports parents.

I'm pretty sure you can get a decent education in a couple hours per day. Keep in mind that athletes by and large do very well academically. IMO physical education is both more important for lifelong health and also important for being able to learn. I don't know if one of these programs is good for us, but it does sound kind of nice. Seriously so much of schooling these days is administrative overhead and wastes of time.

LOL - that same waste of time is likely happening at the fake schools, but with less hours of instruction. Sure, go send your kid there.

Yeah, much of it is indoctrination as well.

Right now they are almost a joke, but these local sports schools are about to start dominating. They are recruiting, training hard, and are getting more resources to compete. People are buying into the idea.

What I want to know is...if you go to school like Bethel but you're not good enough to play college bball, can you still get into a decent college as a regular student? How do colleges look at HS diplomas from schools like Bethel (not considering the basketball side of things)? Also, how is the schooling only a couple per day...is it live or online?

Colleges look at transcripts, SAT’s, and how prior students from a private school have performed when checking out a kids academics. If they don’t have talent to play in college, they will be looked at the same as any other kid that has been homeschooled.

Often people go there for one year and then go back to public high school as a really old senior. or whatever.
