What age will you let your kids take Ubers?

Does it matter if they are girls or boys? My husband does not want our daughters to take an Uber ever. He even gets nervous when I do it solo. He makes me text him the uber info before I get in.

I think given how busy life is our kids (girls and boys) will need to eventually take Ubers as teens. Obviously not young young kids but by 13 I would be fine with it.

Agree with DH.

In high school. 14-15? Bothe boys and girls. My kids are now older (late teens/young adults). They never had a problem.

My son now prefers Waymo so he doesn’t have to talk to anyone. We live where they are common.

I started letting DD around 15. She had to be on the phone with me or someone else saying “I’m getting in the Uber now/ license plate is _______.” That way the driver knew someone was expecting her and knew how to find her. I tracked her trips on my phone. Net had a problem.

As soon as they have credit cards, money, and are away from home so I don't have to know about it.

What is Uber's rule? Definitely no younger than that.

Yeah, your kid will be driving before that.

Uber's rule is 13yo for Uber Teen

Uber teen starting at 16 and only with friends. The app sends the parent all the info and you can follow the ride.

Yeah this is my rule. Kid needs to be attentive enough to know if the driver is doing dangerous stuff and then capable enough to end the ride. (I had an uber driver that was so, so high and drove the wrong way down one-way streets, etc.)

And with a friend or a buddy is key.

I may feel differently about waymo.

Never. For either gender. Suck it up until they are old enough to drive themselves. Use the money you would've wasted on uber to buy a used car for them.

Why are you asking about ubers and not taxi's?

My girls started at 13 and are now 18 and 21 and it's been fine.
But I grew up in NYC taking cabs at a young age and that was way more dangerous. At least with Ubers the driver's name, car and route are known.

Boys starting in high school, girls only with friends in high school.
