Somehow I avoided Covid for five years but I tested positive today and the symptoms are quickly getting worse: 102 degree fever, cough and congestion, headaches and body aches, chills and easily short of breath when moving around.
What did you take to help you get through Covid? I started Paxlovid and plan to take Advil before bed. Staying hydrated with water and Gatorade. I have a pulse oximeter to keep an eye on oxygen levels in my blood. What else should I try? |
| Whatever usually works for you with a cold or flu. For me its sudafed, zinc, and tea. And sleep. |
| Oh, God, are we going to have another summer of Covid outbreaks, like last summer? |
|
rest. Stay hydrated. Keep your cooties to yourself.
There's no magic pill for it. Manage your symptoms with OTC meds. See a doc, if needed, or if you're interested in Paxlovid (not sure if your insurance will cover this, or if it's even available...). Tylenol for the aches/pain/fever, mucinex to keep the congestion from settling, lots of liquids, lots of rest. Hope you feel better soon! |
There's a whole new strain of it, and we have the single, stupidest staffing configuration on the organization responsible for our collective health and well-being, so... yeah. Probably. Masks up! |
We have every summer so far, IDK why this one would be different. |
| I honestly can't believe this question. Where have you been the past 5 years? |
| You've got a jump on the rest of us, OP! I never had access to Paxlovid or a pulse oximeter. As PPs said, just hole up in bed. I took something similar to Nyquil because my sore throat was so bad that sleeping through my illness was the best thing. Besides that I binged shows. |
| Watch out post COVID. I had a mild case but for months after I had COVID my heart rate over reacted to everything. It was awful. |
| After paxlovid, I got I-cant-breathe rebound covid and needed 10 days of clarithromycin and steroids. Hopefully your course is uneventful, for some it is. |
+1 But do you know how many doctors want to hear that your slightly higher BP is probably due to COVID? Zero. They don't seem to be educated about this yet and want to immediately intervene on HBP traditional routes. |
| My 90-year-old father got Covid for the first time four weeks ago and he is so short of breath doing anything. I don’t think there’s much you can do except take it easy and wait it out. |
|
I wouldn’t wait to take the advil. Medicate the fever and aches aggressively.
You’ll be fine. My best advice is to take a lot of time to rest even after the fever and congestion have abated. You need a lot of time to recover since you body never experienced this bug before. don’t rush back to work. |
So you got pneumonia? |
|
Constant ice water.
Paxlovid will make a 100% difference. Weirdly, only aspirin brings down the fever. Rest. 5 veg a day and 2 fruit. If it’s the only thing you do all day, just make a healthy meal. |
