| Did you have a color analysis and if so who did yours? I need to buy a bunch of new clothes and I feel like it’d be easier if I knew what colors look good on me. I have no idea! |
| Melany Carlos in Arlington! |
| I did Color Guru, which is an online. It’s very bare bones, but accurate. She has a monthly subscription service where she’ll show you clothing, access, and make-up in “your” colors. I bought my sister some makeup for Christmas, and she said the colors were absolutely perfect. I didn’t care for the clothes I bought, so i returned them and stopped the subscription. |

I don't recommend online services tbh. You really need to see the colors against your skin in good lighting IRL.
Someone on the NOVA reddit said it's easier to get an appt. with the Loudoun house of color ladies than the Arlington one because they use their own scheduling software. |
She looks promising! |
| It's all a scam. Anyone can wear any color, with the right makeup. |
| I would go to Nordstrom and schedule a private shopping session. They are free and you'll walk out knowing what colors make you feel confident. Although I agree about make up making anything possible, I don't feel that's practical for people who prefer an understated look or make up free, Plus it just complicates getting dressed. Don't buy too much at first. And make it a capsule with a few whatever suits you neutrals and 1-2 accent colors. |
Hard disagree. I have said this here before; I used to LOVE wearing powder blue, and I thought I looked cute in it because I have blue eyes. I wore a ton of navy, white, and powder blue. Always thought I looked good...because I wasn't seeing colors that I actually looked good in. Once I saw myself in coral and butter yellow and turquoise, I was like, oh, I need to be wearing brights! |
Can confirm, my mom and I went to her - she is lovely. Doesn't constantly try to upsell you. She sends a monthly email where she pulls together some pieces in each season's color which is helpful. (I think you can buy a subscription for more but I don't want to, and, again, she's never tried to upsell me.) The only thing I've ever bought from her is makeup, and I do think that is good. |
Have you ever used a personal shopper? A good one would have steered you away from pale cool colors. |
I went to a personal shopper at Nordstrom once and she did not help me with colors at all and just tried to sell me super expensive things. Apparently they don’t have access to the regular Nordstrom stuff. Only the nicer/designer stuff. |

There is a Reddit on color analysis where people post photos and solicit opinions on their season. It’s pretty entertaining to say the least!
None of this is rocket science. The most important is knowing your skin undertones. Some people don’t fall cleanly into a category. I have golden undertones, freckles, blue eyes, dark hair and don’t map properly to the season chart. |
Yes! I follow it sometimes! But I can’t even figure out my undertones! |
How do you find out your undertones? |
| I've been looking into this too, I'm struggling though because I have really neutral undertones. I think some people who don't neatly fit into one of the boxes can cross over into other categories. Whereas some people that are strictly cool/warm might be more limited in what they can look good in. |
