I hope the image posts. Look at the scale of these flames against the more than a dozen lakes amid the forests in this aerial photo. Otherwise, go to https://apnews.com/article/canadian-wildfires-air-quality-smoke-49ee2bff3e7aea5af4a6ab01a433dd3b I grew up in northern Minnesota (where a wildfire threatened my hometown 3 weeks ago, is still not fully contained, and another fire is 0% contained) not far from the Boundary Waters. After several years on the east coast and SW, I now live on the western MN border. For several summers now we have had stretches of haze (sometimes you can smell the smoke) from wildfire smoke drifting from Canada, Minnesota (at times; prevailing winds are mostly from the west) and the western US. I am 70. This was not a feature of the summer until the past 15 years. This image should shock anyone. In this latitude the "April showers bring May flowers" was shifted a month to May (along with early June) with the flowers in June. Not so much now. We have had July temps since mid-May. |
More human encroachment, more wildfires will happen.
People are dumb and careless. |
Many wildfires these days are also the result of deliberate arson.
Instigators. |
But that's not why the fires are so big or hard to contain. Climate change is the reason we have high temps, high winds, and more fuel on the ground. |
Cute, but no. |
Why are there so many wildfires happening? |
NP: You are woefully, demonstrably wrong: https://www.nytimes.com/2025/05/22/climate/deforestation-wri-report.html https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c0lnngl6713o And if you whine about paying for good journalism: https://today.umd.edu/pulling-the-global-fire-alarm |
CLIMATE CHANGE: https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c0lnngl6713o Warmer temperatures mean drier conditions! Ugghhhh… |
Earth was warmer for all history until recently in the Quaternary Period. It's still colder than normal now. Cold is bad. Warmth is life. |
Quite the opposite. Read and learn more, from better sources also, not news sites. |

Exactly. The news is full of lies. Study science instead. It debunks most of the stories the news corporations push. |
Stopping logging also contributes to wildfires |
sure. |
Whatever the cause, that image is horrific. |
