Group of 18 year old boys want an adventure type trip from the DC area.
They have a car but can’t rent one. Can’t do a cruise on their own. Open to hiking/camping. Need ideas for them. |
I did Acadia after college graduation. We stopped somewhere in Massachusetts and camped on a beach on the way there. Maybe a state park? |
If they don't want to go so far, maybe Cuyahoga Valley National Park and they could do day trips to the Pro Football Hall of Fame and/ Rock and Roll Hall of Fame to get some indoor air conditioning 😁 if they like museums and have the funds. |
Apparently you can't camp inside the park anymore, but there may be somewhere close. |
How much time do they have?
|
New River Gorge— raft, hike, camp nearby.
Train to NYC. |
Adirondacks? When my DD was younger, we stayed at Johns Brook Lodge, run by the Adirondack Mountain Club. It has a couple of dormitory rooms plus a couple of four-bunk rooms. It's a three-mile hike into the lodge, which provides some meals, and is a great jumping-off point for day-hiking some of the Adirondack high peaks. They could do the drive in one day with an early-ish start or a more leisurely two days.
I also like the Acadia suggestion. |
I suggested Acadia but figured you'd get a lot more responses. I will add that I camped with groups in First Landing State Park (can bike to the boardwalk, camping is probably only available on non-weekends at this point) and Cape Hatteras National Seashore in my early 20's.
You can do lots of adventurous things at the beach, but I wouldn't worry too much about the perfect destination because the fun of all these trips was the hanging out with friends. Plus being young and energetic! |
you can camp in the outer banks too. |
this weekend? |
Is Shenandoah National Park too obvious? |
He has done Shenandoah and GW National Forest many times. He has also done Acadia and Baxter State Park. Adirondacks sounds nice. This is for mid July. |
How far are they willing to drive?
Michigan's Upper Peninsula is amazing. |
