We live in the NW DC/Bethesda area. I’m kinda shocked at how many families in our neighborhood at the local playground have weekend Nannies bringing their kid to the playground. I went grocery shopping yesterday and there were two nannies dragging along their wards and picking up items.
Is this the same nanny they use during the week? What are the rates? Do the weekend Nannie’s expect 9-5 employment for both days of the weekend? How does this work? Ngl, I can see why having a weekend nanny is helpful! |
Doctors and other professions with non 9to5 hours have weekend nannies. The rest of us have babysitters. |
Do any of you ever watch your own children or do you farm out child care 24/7? |
My SIL used to be a public defender. When my brother was traveling and she was prepping for trial she sometimes asked the nanny to work on Saturdays so the toddler could play and she could work. It wasn't all the time, but the toddler was fine, and the nanny was happy for extra money. |
My kids are never home. They have friends whose parents would pick them up to keep their kids busy. They go to concerts, pool parties, have sleep overs, many birthday parties, play dates, there is a soccer game coming, and now there's this 2-week trip to Disney World. Graduation trip to EU and back there again at Christmas time. I have no reason to say 'no' to anyone as long as the kids want to go. |
They are called "accessory children" and they have been around for quite some time. These children rarely turn out well because their anger with their parents overwhelms them. |
I farm it out 24/7. My preference is to not be within hearing distance of my children. I figure generations of the elite in most countries and culture around the world were raised visiting their parents for 15minutes a day - if its good enough for them, its good enough for us. |
The person I know who does this is an MD with a surgeon husband who takes call a lot. She has a nanny the weekends he has call so she can exercise and do 1:1 things with her other kids (she has four). It is not all day and seems perfectly reasonable to me. |
