I put my Arhaus Crypton sofa cushions in the washing machine and stressed myself out so you don’t have to.

We have an Arhaus section in Crypton Downey Snow. Needless to say, as a white sofa it’s filthy with two kids and a dog.

We’ve done professional steam and shampoo cleanings over the years. They do very little to help. Anyone who has Crypton fabric knows it’s not really stain proof. Maybe liquids do roll off, but the dirt settles in and it’s nearly impossible to get out.

I couldn’t cope with the dirt anymore. Of course Crypton says not to put the covers in the washing machine. But I felt I had nothing to lose. The fabric isn’t wool or linen or anything particularly delicate. It’s man made. We put our polyester in the washing machine every and it’s fine.

So I threw one of the throw pillow covers in the washing machine on its own, as a low risk test. Delicate cycle, cool water, mid water level. Right side out and zipped up.

Came out looking like new, because of course it did. Crypton has a whole lineup of cleaning products they want you to buy and not use Cheer detergent.

So I kept going one by one with the seat and back cushions. Que the angels’ trumpets.

Hope this helps someone out there! Wish we’d done this years ago.

I did the same thing with my cream Bassett sofa recently. It's like I have a new sofa. I'm so happy.

Congrats to both of us.

Thank you for your service to humanity!

What a triumph it is when a home repair project goes right!

You did whole cushions? My very large and powerful front loader just "can't" with two heavy bath mats. Never mind pillows. I just can't get the balancing right and it becomes unbalance no matter how I spread out. Physics.

No, just the cushion covers. Pulled the insert out, zipped the cover up, and washing them one at a time.

Just a quick hint for when you have to put the cover back on the foam cushion. Cover the foam cushion in a trash bag (I usually use a Hefty garbage). Next, pull the cover on over the trash bag. Before you zip it up, reach in and slide the garbage bag out. The garbage bag will slide off easily and you can reuse it for the next cushion.
