Stuart-Hobson "The Wiz"

Went to a matinee of "The Wiz" at SHMS today. It is obvious why 23 students in this year's 8th grade class got accepted to Duke. I saw the same production at the school about 10 years ago and am incredibly impressed with how the theater department has grown since then. The stage performers and crew were amazing, and my kid was super impressed to see their favorite teacher on stage, tapping her heart out! One more show tomorrow afternoon!

Agreed! I think it’s also inspired some of the feeder ESes to up their games musical theater-wise. I saw the Ludlow-Taylor Beauty and the Beast performance last night (Friday) and it was crazily impressive for an after school club with kids as young as 1st grade. A couple of kids were really stand outs and apparently 2 of those girls are heading to Stuart next year and 1 the year after, so it seems like it helps with the feeder path as well.

No. Why would you think this?

The teacher/choreographer did a mini appearance during the Emerald City club scene and the "bows", which for "The Wiz" are just as fun as a show itself. I believe 17 of the admitted Duke students are theater. I know one for sure is dance. A couple of museum studies and perhaps an art. I'm not sure about that one. All of those were represented.

Is this the only poster on DCUM that calls it Duke?

That's what I've always known it as my entire life in DC and how it's referred to IRL. I don't know the lingo for it here.
