Pre-k 3: 25/26 School Year

Anonymous
Just curious anyone on here child starting Pre-k-3 at a school East of the River or Capital Hill area?

I work for DOES, so i’m looking for an easy commute. I rarely hear about schools East of the River on here so I’m assuming they’re not the best.

I would suggest Lee East End, Stokes East End, Wildflower, Miner, Chisholm, and Leckie. DCPS preschool is pretty strong everywhere.

I actually am on the waitlist for Lee East End. I was matched with Van Ness. We moved so I’m not sure if we would be committed to that commute.

Van Ness is good/fine for preK

not the strongest for upper grades does not always mean preK is not nice. id go tour your new nearby dcps options and check out the strength of the admin etc. because being nearby with minimal commute for preK can be really nice.

Van Ness PK3 only matched in boundary students this year. I don't really understand why you're looking for a school further from where you live.

Unless you're interested in specialized programming (like Montessori or dual language), none of the schools available to you in Capitol Hill or east of the river are going to be appreciably better than Van Ness.

If you can still get into Van Ness now that you moved, and the commute works for you, I would suggest that. If it doesn't, maybe jo Wilson (in swing space this year), appletree Oklahoma Ave, beers, or DC learn, depending on where you are commuting to DC learn from.

FYI It's Capitol Hill.

DCPS PK3 & PK4/ ECE is great all across the city. Better than most charters with small class sizes and at least 2 staff per class. You really can’t go wrong. And more experienced/certified teachers.
