Can anyone let me know if they have specific recommendations for elementary, middle or high schools (I currently have an ES and MS student) in the McLean or Vienna area for specific needs that would help high-functioning autistic kids with adhd? One is above average academically and the other is gifted/full time AAP.
These diagnoses came as a surprise and we are in the middle of a house hunt. We were planning to stay within the Langley pyramid, where we already are, but I wonder if this news changes anything about the house search. For example, I heard that Madison has a CSS site that can be good for twice exceptional kids in theory. Just wondering what else I don’t know. If there are any specific programs that you know of, could you share them with me? |

I recall Franklin Sherman has a program, but I don't know much about it. We were pleased with Longfellow Middle. The head of special ed at the time was just awful, but she's gone. I know of a few teachers we really liked in team taught mainstream classes who are still there, no idea if they plan to stay though. There was a beloved teacher for the Strategies for Success elective who seemed to really care about each student and get to know them. No idea if she is still there and I don't recall her name.
As someone said in another thread, with so much turnover everywhere, it's hard to recommend a school. |
| Not to depress you too much, but our solution was leaving the public system for an inexpensive-by-local-standards small religious school. |
This. Check out privates for possibly a better fit. |
