Compacted math and CES

Anonymous
Kid gets into compacted math 4/5 and CES in the fall. Do parents need to prep something for kid this summer? Kid just plans to watch screentime, play and does day camp like in the past. I would appreciate if someone can post links about the path for language & literacy AND math curriculum/program/credit for kids in MCPS MS/HS doing CES & compacted math at ES.

No.

I would just have them keep up with their multiplication facts.

I suspect this is a fake post given that compacted math announcements are not out yet and won’t be for a few more weeks…

no, its really not necessary. honestly you will want them to naturally test/ID for that instead of having to work hard for it. I wouldn't push my kid this quickly if they're not ready.

No. Program has been so watered down that there shouldn’t be any issues next year with the curriculum

Schools make their own decisions about when to tell families. Many schools wait until after school is over, but not all of them do.

Compacted 5/6 teacher here...
Please have your child practice LONG division and 3 by 5 digit multiplication. Get them used to writing out their work.
As for writing, please have them keep a journal or have them write a paragraph everyday. Have them write their own song (figurative language and poetry writing).
Have them practice writing that DESCRIBES things in detail. For example, "what is your ideal meal? What does it look like? What does it smell like?"
Get them used to A LOT of writing
I hope this helps

meh, non of this was necessary for my kid... she had zero issues in class (most of her classmates had no issues either). Unless you think your kid is some what behind, there is no point in doing anything.

I saw the letter for my kid in Parentvue last week.
