We are looking for those with recommendations on weekend Girl Scout camps in the fall in the DMV for Brownie/Junior level. We are looking for ones where there is some level of supported activities. Could parents and scout leaders weigh in? Thank you!
Do you mean for your whole troop to attend?
yes
It’s been a long time for me but I believe the GSCNC website should include info about camps and their features. They used to have a lot of info there.
+1 You need to book these like 3-6 months ahead FYI. The warmer months (e.g. Sept, Oct) get booked fast. Our troop had a great time Camp Potomac Woods: https://www.gscnc.org/en/members/for-girl-scouts/camp-and-outdoors/virginia-camp-properties.html |
Where we live, we have Encamporees that are for troops but run by our Service Unit and meals and activities are mostly provided. Ours are often open to troops from other service units and there are ones pretty much every fall and spring weekend. They usually get announced on our area’s Facebook page or specific Facebook pages for local brownie, junior, etc troops. I don’t know why GS leaders still use Facebook to communicate, but they do and there’s lots of info there. Look up groups by things like your service unit number or your council name, or ask your council for advice on how to find Encamporee listings or similar.
Core camps. Registration is open. Core camps are hosted on the fall and spring. Programming and food is provided. You need a camp trained abd first aid volunteer for your troop.
yes, the easiest thing will be to attend camp weekends run by the council.
OP here. Yep. We're on it with timing. I'm aware of the GS site of course but was also looking for just real experience recs with sites.Thank you.

We’ve been to most of the ones close to the city- and they are all equally good. We’ve always done our own camping though, so are just looking to use the facilities. For that we look at the use charts to find what kind of setup we want. My favorite was getting a little cabin at one of the ones in Maryland and sleeping the whole troop on the floor in the winter. Such a fun trip!
Are you subscribed to the Wilderness Wednesday rally? They send out emails with activities that are available to sign up. Some are run by council, others by troops. Actually it might be called the outdoor &high adventure rally? |
camp conowingo was always my favorite growing up.
