August Trip Ideas

Looking for a 5/6 night trip first or second week in August. Three kids 11, 8, and 6. No we are a bit late to the planning — open to flying or driving. We aren’t outdoorsy — so nothing hiking/camping oriented.

St. Louis. It might be hot, but they are the perfect ages for City Museum. There are lots of other things to do there, plus the Arch.

We usually go to the Austrian Alps for a couple weeks to escape the Canicule. DH inherited his mom's little cabin house there.

Your poor kids. How do they even know they aren't outdoorsy? Kids love the outdoors. Take them somewhere cool and enjoy being outside.

Chicago

Easy trips we've done all with our kids before age 14. I'm a big fan of easy esp if you only have a wk. we are not exactly outdoorsy either but good with beauty. Of the above Chicago would be easiest. Boston and NYC aren't bad as everyone will be out of Manhattan in Aug that's low season and high season in the other places.

I would not do Europe in 6 days.

PS I'm from Chicago and air show is Aug. alternating yrs for Thunderbirds and Blue Angels. A lot of fun. I guarantee you will fall in love with Chicago. I'm serious. Nobody I know has never had the best time esp with kids in Aug in Chicago. I say this as someone who will always consider Chicago home but also very well travelled.

This sounds attainable for the average DCUM. Why do you even bother to post? Is it your narcissism?
