| I might be searching for a unicorn here but was curious if anyone’s high schools have leadership opportunities in the athletics department like team managers, or other management positions. My DD decided to drop her varsity sport given toxicity and just overall a negative experience with the coaches but would still like to be involved in the athletics department as a non-athlete and given her interest in potentially pursuing something in sports management, I want her to ask our athletics director if there are any leadership opportunities she can pursue maybe with the football team and a coach’s assistant or something like that? Thinking football bc she likes the sport and probably a large enough operation that could need support. Anyway-anyone ever heard of anything like this? |
| There are definitely team "managers," though I would not call it a "leadership position," really. They are more like team helpers. |

I’ve been waiting to post this idea:
Have her take over the play by play or even side line ‘reporting gig for stadium crowd. So tired of Gen X parents hogging the spotlight (picking our gens music, using our Gen lingo) This idea isn’t a new one - but could lead to opportunities in sports tv if she happens to have ‘the look’. Friend of a friend took this from parent and it led to u of Chicago |
Ohhh I like this idea! She loves football and she def has the look haha so maybe this could be a fun way to stay engaged. Or help out with their social media even. |
| The team managers for my DD's JV team were selected from the kids who tried out, but didn't make the team. They had the opportunity to practice with the team, which was nice for them (but a waste of practice time for the rest of the team). The athletics department is in charge of a student club that has your typical leadership positions, plus they can invent additional positions depending on the interest of the kids. It is typical to have some communications director, social media specialist, different fund raising managers. Ask if your high school has something similar (I would be surprised if this is a unique club at our HS). |
