Did Bullis really lose a race with a gold medalist on their team?

Just heard someone mention that Quincy Wilson got beat in an anchor leg in a relay race. Is that true?

No idea in that race, but it happens. DC was at a meet where he competed and got second. He was generous with his time posing for pics with others so he seemed like a good kid.

I think he may have lost at the Penn Relays against another kid that is also Olympic caliber (and two years older).

Not sure if that is what you are referring.

Everyone loses sometimes.

Bullis lost at Penn Relays but Quincy ran the fastest leg of the race.

Agree he seems like a good kid. I always root for him.

Quincy Wilson also got second at VA showcase in January in the 500m to Andrew Salvodon.

It happens.

Bullis got 2nd to a Jamaican team, while smashing a 40yo US HS record. And the last American team to win was in 2007. I'd say that's a darn good run!

"Jamaican school Kingston College got the victory (in a scorching 3:05.93) in a tight battle with Bullis and Calabar, another team from the Caribbean island nation, but Bullis anchor Quincy Wilson put on quite a show. Following teammates Mickey Green (48.3), Cam Homer (46.6) and Colin Abrams (47.37), Wilson got the baton in a distant 5th. He roared through the first 200 to close the gap but didn’t quite have enough to match the final homestretch surge from Kingston’s Marcinho Rose (45.04).

Still, Wilson split a sensational 43.99 (second fastest ever by a prep) to seal 2nd place in 3:06.31. That sliced more than a second off the 3:07.40 HSR set 40 years ago by Hawthorne (California)."

Way to go, anonymous poster! What an amazing fact that a kid can lose a race! If you've heard top athletes talking about their experience, you would understand that everyone can lose some. It's not about winning every time, it is about being consistent and working hard. How about you race that kid and tell us how it goes?

Wilson didn't run in the final at the olympics; he got a gold medal because he ran in a preliminary leg. Obviously he is an amazing athlete but that doesn't mean he'll win 100% of the time, especially in relays where other teams might start before him in the anchor leg.

It would be far worse for him if he was scared to compete. Who knows where he is in his training cycle. He could easily be training to peak at a different time. Either way he’s getting everyone’s best effort. The best will relish the competition knowing they need it to keep improving. Pulling for him.

Yes. He got caught at the wire by a junior at STA. This was an IAC race.

I’m sure the STA kids were pumped but the 800 isn’t Quincy’s race. I’m sure a ton of kids would beat him in a 5k. If you can beat him in a 400, that would be special.
