Help with Europe somewhat last minute trip.

Anonymous
So I have a big bday coming up and my husband surprised me yesterday by saying he wants to take us all away early July, anywhere I want.
So two top choices- I would love to fly into Naples and then travel to Positano and other areas around there OR fly into Nice and go to Provence, Monaco, etc...

I know these are really busy times for those places. My twin 18 year olds who will come want to go to Monaco, which I think could be fun but I am not sure about the crowds, heat, etc..

If not to either of these places, any other suggestions? Coastal, European, great hotels and accessible via a major airport?

I'd do Nice or nearby, and Provence. Monaco is good for a day trip (and is easy on the train) but I wouldn't stay overnight.

In Provence we stayed in Menerbes at La Bastide de Marie and I highly recommend it for a few days.

Personally I'd do a smaller town than Nice but Nice is fine as a base to explore the surrounding towns.

It will be very hot. It will be very crowded. It will be very expensive.

Between those two I’d do the south of France, but I’d also expand to maybe northern Spain or Croatia or even Scandinavia.

I would look to see what flights, accommodations and reservations for activities are available and plan based on that. July is going to be crowded no matter where you go so now the question is availablility.

I would also pick Provence out of those two options. There are so many smaller towns you could stay in.

Other ideas:

- Puglia. Stay in a Masseria or if you want to splurge here https://www.borgoegnazia.com/.

- Bilbao/San Sebastian/Biarritz. Could add Pamplona and watch the running of the bulls.

- Rome and Ischia. https://www.pellicanohotels.com/en/hotels/mezzatorre-hotel-e-thermal-spa/

+1

Do some research to see what’s available and if that’s the type of vacation you want. We’re going to Provence next week and it’s early in the season and still hotels were all booked up months ago.
