"Friendship" - The movie

We just saw this over the weekend. Anyone else?

FWIW, we are pretty stunned by how many people (critics and audience) gave this a big thumbs up.

I didn't see it but I watched the trailer and read a detailed plot synopsis, and I was surprised by the juxtaposition between these things (which seemed to point to a cruel, cringy, and sadistic indie movie - which I get is some people's taste if not mine) and the movie blurbs which called it "hilarious." So curious what you saw.

We went because it was billed as a comedy but we are stumped at to what category of humor this is. We didn't laugh once during the whole movie.

It was like spending a couple of hours with very weird people who were one dimensional, self-absorbed and behaved in implausible ways. You just want to get away from them as soon as possible and forget you ever met them.

Just curious - do you consider it a comedy?

I'm a huge Paul Rudd fan and I like a fair amount of A24 films but this one didn't do it for me. To each their own.

Omg, there were so many funny things in it! He loses his wife in the sewer?! And the end!? He just couldn’t help himself.

Also, best line of the whole movie: “also, we should still be in Afghanistan.”
