HSA account am I doing this right?

This is my first year with an HSA. I chose to deduct the max allowed towards it. I opened an HSA account on my own at fidelity and gave that to HR as the bank account number. Did I do this correctly?

I doubt it. Typically companies have their own relationships with an HSA provider and they will place your contributions into that account. You can periodically transfer the funds to Fidelity if you wish but it will be paperwork on your end each time.
