Are the DOGE cuts pretty much over?

Elon has gone back to the private sector and we haven’t had the massive firings that we saw in February through April.

Far from it.

They definitely have slowed. My agency fired a lot of probationary employees but in July will have to fill those positions because we can’t meet our statutory mandates. The talk has definitely shifted from “Will there be RIFs?” to “How quickly will the hiring freeze thaw?”

not at State

Which agency? They're still active at FINRAs and Energies. Trump is making EO moves to try to legitimize this mess

Seems like it.

Cutting 83,000 at VA , according to WashPost yesterday

Absolutely not, they have just learned to drib it out and pace themselves to reduce bad press.

They came in with a chainsaw, so threw red meat to their MAGA base, but once mainstream America got wind of how it may impact services and long term functionality of the country, they took it on the down low. But they did not end it.

Haha. The new cuts wil be legal because agency heads will do them and they will stick.

The RIFs at most agencies are on hold for now per the preliminary injunction. Expect things to speed up if the SC grants an emergency stay on the PI.

The cuts remain and are continuing to impact functionality in the dumbest ways.

We also haven’t seen the impact of the DRPers yet since many of them haven’t gone on admin leave yet. Those dates aren’t consistent across agencies, but I’d imagine things start really breaking down this summer.

Plus people just continue to leave even without the incentives due to DOGE’s demoralizing impact.

Elon was complaining that the Big Beautiful Bill restores funding to some of the stuff that DOGE cut.

The momentum is lost, and staffs are way down. At my job there are about 1/3 of us left (and more announcing retirement every day, it seems). If they want deeper cuts they aren't going to have to do much, normal quitting/retiring and a hiring freeze will do it pretty easily.

Some entire agencies may still end up cut or sent to Timbuktu for political reasons though.

Not by a long shot, RIFS are being held off right now by an injunction but the court cases is still playing out and injunction is being appealed.

Elon may be going into the background but Doge is still active and Vought is said to be taking Elon's place at the helm. If anything he may be worse than Elon.
