If my player is offered a futures spot on SYC, are they actually gonna play on first team or are they really on the second team and just having first team dangled like a carrot ?

| On second team, practice once a week with first, could eventually move up depending on age group |
| Our DD was on futures and moved up to top team. While on futures would guest play occasionally practice with team once a week. |
| I read that a Player who is rostered with a club or a Club’s Partner who is not ready to contribute at the MLS NEXT level full time. I just wonder if they are overselling this future status. |
| It's not a lot different than any other club with lower teams. If it's your DC's goal to make it to the first team you just have to hope that the coaches in your age group are open and willing to have honest conversations about the talent in the age pool. Often times so many other factors come into play so don't expect it to be any different. |
| Yes, futures do work and is a great place for development. Be prepared to have conversations if need it with coaches (younger ages) or have your player if older discuss IDPs with them. |
|
I heard 2nd team players will practice with 1st team once a week.
As for games, only opportunity to play with 1st team is if subs are needed due to absent players. |

They are also keeping you from changing clubs with that designation.
Look at it this way, if you were at a competing club and came to tryouts (or came out to a 'secret' practice session w the 1s team), then you would have received a 1st team offer because they want you to switch clubs. But, if you are already in the club, they know you are probably not going anywhere and at the same time, they don't want you to leave for another club. Trust me, if you are not getting significant guest playing time by next winter but you see new players out to practice you will probably not move up. Sorry my opinion is a bit jaded, but it is based on a lot of 'lip service' this last year & watching players transfer in -vs- being promoted internally. No honest feedback, no honest communication, no metrics, no IDP, no data points, we were kept in the dark & then ID sessions were largely not helpful as kids made the 1st team and didn't even attend ID sessions. (or they attended 1x ID session). However kids with a 'futures' designation all seem to be good players and could easily be on the top team now (my kid too), and they could move up, but Im not holding my breath again this year. |

Typically, "future players" will train with the first team but play matches with the second team. Occasionally, they’ll also get playing time with the first team.
A clear example of this is the 2011B squad. Several future players are rostered with the first team, but when the second team has a tournament or a critical match, those same players are brought down to help secure a win. The State Cup is a perfect example of how these future players are strategically used to tip the scales and dominate the competition. |
Seems to be different on the boys side than the girls. |
we are new to the club - not sure if that matters |
| Definitely agree they will take an outside player over a futures player for the most part. Although I do know one that moved up. I was actually surprised. |
| Run away - I know of only one kid who eventually made it to the first team across multiple age groups. |
| We played SYC. Meh. Thought they would be a lot better. |
The famous words of Admiral Ackbar come to mind. |
