King Charles, King of Canada

King Charles, King of Canada, opened the 45th parliament of Canada with the Throne Speech and the new Prime Minister of Canada, Mark Carney, today. Talk about a strong symbolic moment for Canada by reinforcing their ties to Great Britain.

The British Monarchy has been ceremonial for at least 100+ years. Who cares?

They are part of the British commonwealth. Not surprising in the least.

Trump’s got the invite, doesn’t he?

I wish it would be pulled.

I think it's great that King Charles came to Canada. Canada feels very much abandoned by the US and if the UK / Commonwealth can offer a bit of solidarity and indicate to the big bully next door (which there's no doubt Trump intends to be right now) that Canada has friends and cannot easily be stomped on, then so much the better.

I only wish that my government was exhibiting better behavior. The way Trump acts towards Canada and towards US institutions and politicians is shameful. I'm ashamed that my countrymen elected him.

It was an FU to Trump. Not that he will understand that.

It is the third time since 1867 that a monarch has opened parliament in Canada.

Americans don’t know hardly anything at all about Canada. They don’t teach much about Canada in US schools. Canada views the USA the same way that the USA views Mexico now.

Yes this is a big deal. Both to show the US and world that Canada has friends. And within Canada to help unite Canadians and quell succession discussion after this tumulruous election period.

Is it hard to just move there? I mean, as a contributing member of society, not a socialism leech.

Yes. Most desirable and modern industrialized countries don’t allow easy immigration for average USA citizens.

It was a message to trump: Shut up and back off! Canada will never be a part of THE US.
