Why would you pick uva over Georgetown msb

Anonymous
Would like To hear from All especially the uva boosters

What reason would you have to give up a guaranteed business school admit at McDonough in Georgetown for uva ?

In-state tuition and a better undergrad business program based on rankings.

Not a UVA booster. UVA would be a clear winner here.

Yes but it’s not guaranteed is it still worth it?

I would pick UVA, even OOS. Georgetown has a terrible endowment for its ranking, which I can never understand. How do they take so many prep school kids, yet alums aren’t loyal enough to donate?

My DC has health issues and I’d be worried about the dorms. Both great schools but very different vibe. If possible, I’d let the kid pick based on best fit.

How hard is it to get into McIntire once you're at UVA? I don't know that, and that would determine my answer (assuming $ isn't a factor).

I don't like UVA, and don't live in Virginia, but you're tone-deaf if you think that most families can afford anything other than in-state tuition.

What percent of applicants get accepted to McIntire at the end of first year? I heard it is holistic and the results are somewhat unpredictable.

Why do so many people on this forum not understand that money is an issue for the vast majority of families?

I know. The entitlement and ignorance is mind-blowing.

You would if you were clinically insane

Many, many NOVA families pick UVA over Georgetown, and many more who figure they’re likely to get into both don’t even bother applying to Georgetown because they know they won’t go there. It makes zero sense financially, academically, or socially for any Virginia resident whose kid can get into UVA to go to Georgetown. It is not a popular school south of the Potomac.

Only reason is money. If you are going to study business in college you will learn business is all about risk and reward. Both decent business schools, so if cost is not an issue you go with the guaranteed admit. It really is that simple.

I think the answer is cultural values. UVA is more relaxed. Kids like the snob appeal of GU that is more intense than UVA. My kids would not fit in with the pedigree crowd.

Georgetown has much better IB placement.

Personally, I would think that having lots of classmates and alums in investment banking would be a negative, but that's why I didn't apply to business school!
