Hey everyone, I need some quick advice on traveling to the zoo with my three kids using the Metro. I'm staying on the Red Line and only traveling to the zoo and back. We rarely use the Metro, and I'm trying to figure out the best way to pay the fare. One of my kids is four years old, so I know she rides free with me.
My main question is: can I use one SmarTrip card to pay for all of us? Should I get a $30 SmarTrip card on my phone and just tap it multiple times at the station, or do I need separate cards for each of us? I'm looking for the most cost-effective way to handle fares for a single round trip today. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! |

Each person needs a separate smart trip card.
But kids under a certain age can go through with you so google the age and buy cards for each person who needs one. |
Age is 4 and under to ride free and up to two kids per fare paying rider. To get fare info, go on the WMATA.com trip finder. As for paying, everyone needs their own card. You can use your apple wallet but I don’t know how that works with multiple cards. |
