Infants, Toddlers, & Preschoolers

I would love to get the basic lowdown on how people navigate choosing schools in DC. What’s been you strategy or path for the preschool years and let’s say up to 4th grade or so? There’s a strong chance we won’t stay in DC another decade+ but want to make the most of the time we do have.
If your child is learning a non-English language, I’m especially interested in your approach. What programs are quality, etc. Our preference would be Spanish as a second language because one parent speaks it (or did historically) and we figure if/when we leave DC, we might be more likely to find good quality Spanish language resources and immersion opportunities for kids elsewhere than other languages. We can switch neighborhoods sometime in the next several months so I feel like I really need to study up on schools. We don’t make the cutoff to start for the 2025-26 school year so have a bit of time to fully research but moving house is putting some pressure on that. |
