I had no idea shrinkflation was this horrible. Since when in the bloody hell is sugar sold in a 4lb bag??? This is the first time in a while I've had to buy sugar, but I was absolutely floored by a HUGE cut in size. Of course customers notice a 20% shrink! And of course the prices haven't done anything except go up. Insane! |
They've been 4 lbs for quite a while |
+1, at least 4-5 years maybe longer. |
And C&H isn't pure cane sugar from Hawaii anymore.
But I can still sing the song from the commercial. |
All I remember are 4 pound bags, but I never buy much anyway unless making preserves. |
Perhaps you are thinking about flour which comes in 5 pound bags usually? |
It was a pre-Covid change. |
No, sugar ALWAYS used to be 5 lbs! |
This has been for over decade. Search online and will see it being discussed as early as 2009 and here’s an article from 2014:

It’s been this way for years. |
Why are you scaremongering by posting several threads about the price of groceries?
Don't. The economy has enough problem as it is. People know what they're paying and aren't seeing the happy times this administration told us was coming. No need for hysterics on top of that. |
I thought it might be metric 2 kilos, but it's just 64 ounces. How boring. |
I’m happy! Gas was $2.49 this week! |
Is this same person who posted the b.s. $70/week grocery story going up this year to $130? |
4 lbs isn’t new. I have no idea how far back they’ve been 4 pounds but definitely long before COVID. I’m an avid baker for what it’s worth so I buy a bag of sugar every 6-8 weeks and would have noticed. |
