How would I go about finding a high school or college aged student looking to nanny for ES aged kids

Anonymous
I’d like to find a nanny for my 9 and 12 year olds for this summer. One kid is very shy and is not thrilled to be in a camp with kids she doesn’t know. The other kid is not a morning person and benefits from sleeping in so camp means early wake ups.

I am looking for someone a high schooler or colleges aged student that can do some limited driving, hang out with kids, take them to our community pool which is walking distance.

Where do I search? How do I start?

Unfortunately for this summer you’re late. But start with neighborhood list serves, local college job boards, let everyone know you’re looking, etc.

You're a bit late, but you might actually have better luck this summer than in previous years, because the job market has been turned on its head in the DC area, due to federal layoffs. Lots of fired feds are taking jobs that traditionally go to college kids, and lots of college kids are taking jobs that traditionally go to some high schoolers.

However, I want to caution you strongly about the driving. Teens are the population that's most at risk on the road due to inexperience. Teens these days drive fewer hours than in previous generations. Please inquire about driving experience when you hire one.

Tell your friends, coworkers, and neighbors that you’re looking. Look on the local college hiring board, with a particular eye to childhood development or education majors.

Ask on neighborhood list serve and you might get lucky especially if you don’t need every week. For instance my 16 year old doesn’t have a job because he needs to take two weeks off in July and one in August.

If you don’t need driving that opens up a whole world. My oldest did this when she was 14 and it was great. She’d walk the kids to the park, make them lunch, play Legos and do crafts with them, etc. And was thrilled to have all the money she made.

I don't know where all the people looking for jobs are. Restaurants are hiring and can't find help. We make $30-$50 an hours, but can't find workers. We do have bunch of young people who sit on their phones and play rock, paper, scissors.
Where are all the people who were laid off? We need a manager too. Lovely place to work. I'm going on year 11.

What restaurant? I’m able and willing to work. How do I apply?
