Asking for a friend — actually, my cousin from LA, who will be in Philly for a few weeks for work and wants to go to the beach. |
Wildwood is probably the most popular, followed by Atlantic City. |
Gunnison Beach |
NJ resident here. The shore is quite lovely in some parts! NJ is not just the Turnpike and Newark airport. |
Seaside Heights, Atlantic City, Long Branch |
Wildwood has enormous, free beaches and a fun, kitschy boardwalk. Avalon for preppy types, Cape May for cultured types, Sea Isle for listening to cover bands at the Ocean Drive bar. AC for gambling only. |
Oh also, anything north of LBI is too much of a trek from Philly. The Philly shore towns generally stretch from Brigantine to Cape May. |
Thanks, all, for these helpful responses. I especially appreciate the sociological insights of 21:46.
Happy summer, everybody! |
Avalon is great. Cape May is lovely but a little older, gorgeous architecture.
AC is a dump but can be fun for gambling and nightlife in the casinos. Borgata and Ocean Casino are on the higher end. Hard Rock Cafe great for live music. |
