Landing at DCA on 6/14 (fireworks)

My mom is landing at DCA at around 8:15. How much of a nightmare will it be to pick her up (coming from Gaithersburg)? Hopefully we would be heading back before the fireworks end but the GW Parkway is a mess even on a good day.

And she is 80 so I am not just telling her to take the metro..

You could exit towards Alexandria (rather than Arlington) and join the beltway at Alexandria in either direction, then go all the way around to the Gaithersburg exit.

I would try to change it.

You could park somewhere on the yellow or blue line in NOVA close to 495, like Springfield, Van Dorn, Eisenhower or Huntington where you can park your car, take the metro yourself to DCA and meet your mother at the airport. Then metro back together to your car and drive up the inner loop to Maryland.

Metro to her or change her flight. It will be a mess getting around.

There’s no issue with the actual fireworks people fly on Fourth of July all the time. Plus, keep in mind that many people In MD Northern Virginia and DC have no interest in going to these fireworks for political reasons.

I’m saying change it not because of the fireworks. I’m saying change it because DC will have this silly spectacle, protests, etc.

This is the dumbest advice. Sure add in multiple unnecessary steps and 30+ minutes for an 80 year old. Just drive to the terminal and then go around the Maryland side if you think that’s better.

Can you actually read? Because Op literally said they were worried about the GW Parkway. How do you suggest you get to the terminal then? The proposed metro idea is actually a good one. You are rude.

Still stupid advice. Go around the MD side both ways if you really think that’s necessary. Done make Grandma wait 15+ minutes for a metro.

How you going to get from Maryland to DCA and avoid the GW Parkway? Have you even been to National? So please explain, since OP wants to avoid the Parkway, how to get to National since it’s between the Parkway and the Potomac?

You want Grandma to wait 15 min for the metro or hours if OP is stuck in traffic on the Parkway? If she’s so sensitive, maybe she shouldn’t be traveling at all. Also you need to look at a map.
