Jetstar airlines - anyone with experience?

Anonymous
I'm booking a leg of a trip from HNL to SYD- the fare for Jetstar is 10% of Quantas-- I travel light so additional fees aren't a major concern.

I just want to make sure I'll arrive safely.

I know it's a budget airline like Ryanair.

Does anyone know what the risk of being rescheduled for another flight is? Generally how bad is this airline?

We've used Jetstar a few times. We never had a problem in terms of delays or safety, but they were sticklers for the baggage, for sure -- at least for domestic flights within Australia. Make sure you are truly traveling light.

But we took V Australia instead of Jetstar last year (SYD-Cairns) because it was only a bit more expensive, and V Australia still dinged us for having carry-ons that were slightly too heavy. They also tried to charge us for a carseat, but they ultimately allowed it for free. We kept saying, we should have just flown Jetstar and purchased a few checked bags.

Since now every airline looks to nickel-and-dime for everything, the old budget airlines like Jetstar don't seem like a bad option anymore.

You'll arrive safely, or as safe as you'd arrive with any other western carrier.

Thanks everyone. The fare is ridiculous from HNL to SYD -- around $100 while Quantas is around $1000. So I'll try it.

+1

Why do people not understand statistics and logic?

Flying in Australia is incredibly safe, no matter the airline.

I would not recommend.

What problems did you experience?

I've taken JetStar. It's an Aussie low-cost airline but much nicer than the American low-cost airlines like Spirit and Frontier.

That has never been reported with Jetstar.

I had a funny experience on Jetstar once. It was a 1 am flight leaving Bali for Cairns. The flight attendant stressed many times during the safety announcement that drinking alcohol you brought on board was prohibited. My husband I were like “why has she mentioned this like 4 times?”

After the plane took off, even before we had reached our cruising altitude, a third of the plane got up and pulled out booze they’d stashed in their carryons. Aussies!

Bali is a very low cost destination for Australians. Jetstar is very safe but because it is affordable, it attracts a lot of young people and people with lower incomes. Jetstar is sometimes jokingly called the “bogan missile” or “bogan bus”.
