Is there a way to find a deal on a specific route? I am looking for a deal on a specific route for Christmastime. We ski and the route from here to SLC is $1000 pp in economy on Delta, non-stop. We paid the same last year for our seats on the 7:10 am flight from IAD to SLC. It is the same for the non-stop from DCA to SLC, except the flight is at 5:30 pm. The flight from BWI is a little cheaper but the flight back is a red-eye. The flights that require a stop aren't much cheaper for the flights that get you there in under 8 hours. There are much cheaper ones but those are 18 hours of travel, which seems ridiculous.
Does anyone know if these prices ever drop? The price was the same last year as it is this year. Any tips, tricks etc? We have cc points that end up paying for part of the cost but it still is expensive. TIA |
You want to go to a highly desirable spot at Christmas, it's gonna be expensive. There are no tricks, there's no certain times of day to book, or days of the week to book when it gets cheaper, etc. All you can do is wait or shift your dates.
As soon as you see a fare you are comfortable with, book it. With most any fare except for basic economy, you should be able to rebook and get a difference if it goes down. |

There's no way to get a "deal" flying the busiest week of the year to a very popular destination. |
This ^^ And act quickly if you see a good price. |
If you book on Tuesdays at 4:32 AM, all tickets are 4.3% cheaper. But if you click "Purchase" at 4:33 AM, you pay double. |
Flights open up about 11 months before. The trick was to book it in February, not now. |
DP here. I booked then. It wasn’t cheap then either. There is no “trick” for traveling that week. It’s effing expensive and you only do it if you have to or you don’t care what it costs. |
SWA out of BWI for SLC trips. |
The delta SLC flights are super expensive all ski season. Southwest has flights a few days a week from BWI to SLC but those are likely expensive too. Flying Xmas eve/day may be cheaper but likely not by much. |

This. The price is based on demand. It's only going to get more expensive as you get closer in. |
is it cheaper to fly to a nearby hub and drive farther? |
