How many 50yo+ non feds do you know who were laid off between 1/2024 and now?

Anonymous
I know at least 20, most before the 2024 election but a few are still suddenly out of work. Spouses was one but has managed to land a new job a couple weeks ago. A few really surprised me. They have been recently rewarded at work. One works near the bleeding edge of tech with papers and recognition — as a techie not a manager.

Are the numbers similar in other age cohorts?

I’m in this cohort, so of course, I notice tbings happening to my peers (and my kids’ cohort).

I have never met a Fed in all my time in DC. Do they exist. Yes I see them on TV and such but never met one in person.

Hard to meet them when you never step out of your basement.

I'm mid-50s as are my pals. I know more govt contractors than feds. One was put on admin leave in Feb or March and hasn't found a new job. Isn't optimistic about returning to the fed job. I knew 2 at DOJ: 1 remains, 1 resigned. All the contractors I know personally are still employed.

Most Feds live in the exurbs because they can’t afford close in.

I worked (remotely) for the government and literally got paid to do nothing.

I’ve worked office jobs and hospital jobs….people whine about how “hard they work” while sitting around eating and gossiping for HOURS. Workplace bullying is a problem because people have no work to do. There’s so many lazy ass people.

The hardest job I ever had was working at a pharmacy when I was 20 years old. I didn’t need the money, but wanted experience for my resume. I couldn’t even use the restroom it was so busy. And customers were abusive. And those poor people barely make 50k a year. It made me never want to become a pharmacist.

Meanwhile, you get paid to sit on your ass for 36 of the 40 hours a week at government jobs. Just attend a few meetings, send a couple emails, and spend the rest of the day sitting on your phone or socializing.

And that is how things are at MOST office jobs. Stop lying to yourselves

Sounds like you only know how to work if someone is telling you what to do, in very precise detail.

I guess reading comprehension is a problem for you, or did you just decide not to read the OP and go right to trash talking federal workers. OP asked about non-federal employees.
