What do you do 1st day of vacation and a late check in?

Wondering what you do after late check in's after 4pm. Just settle in? Do you just relax from traveling? I have OCD so I clean a little but don't think that's usual for most people. it somewhat feels like a wasted day the first and last day of a trip.

Depends on SO many factors. Are you flying or driving? How long is the travel? Where are you going? Who is traveling with you?

When we go to the beach we head to the area before checkin time. We go to the same lunch place each time. Then we head to a big beach surf store and bum around looking for a toy or hat if someone forgot it. If we have time we will hit the bookstore.

When we check in…The cleaners have just cleaned so unless it’s visibly dirty I don’t clean. We do look for bedbugs asap. Then if we need groceries I’ll either order them or we all go together and split the list. It’s all part of the process. I don’t see it as a waste of a day. Sure we aren’t lying on the beach, but we have fun along the way!

Sorry I meant to add that after we have settled in we will eat and go out for ice cream or something. We are early birds so we don’t stay out late, we head back to the rental and watch tv and go to bed. Then the next morning we hit the ground running!

Depends. If we’re in a city, I go out to dinner and try to fit in some sightseeing, like walking around or a night tour. If we’re going to the beach, I’ll order dinner, unpack and relax, maybe go to the grocery store.

Where we travel, dinner is often not served until 10pm, so we just like to check in, put our belongings away in the room, and go out to a local bar/art museum/open air concert before dinner.

It is a PITA. We usually commit to a spot with our luggage, usually by the pool, and let the kids swim. We sit and have a cocktail and watch the bags.

Depends. When we arrived in Portugal last winter at about that time, DH and DD just wanted to nap and recuperate from a long flight. DS and I wanted to explore. So we left them at the hotel while he and I got an espresso and poked around the neighborhood shops. A couple hours later the others revived and we went out to dinner.

When we drive to the beach we find it sooooo much easier to bring a bunch of food ear that until it runs out then a trip to The store if needed. I don't like food shopping on vacation.

Same! I can think of few things more miserable on vacation than having to go grocery shopping or do laundry.

If I need to clean the hotel room or rental when I get there, then I will be complaining to management! I expect, and pay for, something that's very clean.

We relax and find a place to get dinner, OP, that's what we do.

Same. We usually do early flights, go right to museum or attractions from the airport, check in, head back out to dinner

Well there is viable "clean" and knowing that some maid services just spray the sheets. Insider knowledge and you would probably want to clean and disinfect some areas.
