Does anyone have any insights or thoughts about JMS? Thanks!

I don’t think anyone who is on this forum would send their kid to Johnson. It’s either the worst or second worst MS in the city.

I have heard some families go there b/c of their strong athletics, especially football and basketball

They *had* a great principal - Latisha Coleman. (Know her from when she was the first-ever MS principal at Inspired Teaching.) But I just googled her and she is leaving, she going to be the principal at Dunbar HS for 2025-2026… which is really good news for Dunbar.

I've spent time at Johnson. The teachers and staff are committed to the students. The school attracts a number of external programs and has an amazing athletics program. The boys' basketball coach who won a number of championships is headed to Phelps. Students and families struggle with crime and poverty. The school works hard to overcome those external challenges.
