A man ordering gin & tonic is a known turn off / red flag to women?

Anonymous
I had never heard this in my life but now twice in recent months in different social settings and in completely different regions of the U.S., among all college educated women, it’s been gossiped this is like a known thing. Gin and tonic has some effeminate and/or gaydar insinuations?

I’ve never heard of this, but I’m in my mid-40s.

Yes, just as true as the fact that any female driver of a Subaru must be lesbian.

Please try to be less stupid, OP.

I drive a Forester and DH loves a gin and tonic. We must be in a lavender marriage.

Not for me, 42F, because I love a good gin and tonic!

+1 except I'm mid 50s and I love a gin & tonic.

I don't drink enough to understand why this would be a cliche.

Look for occasional drinkers only and they will have zero preconceptions unless the drink is obviously ridiculous (Sex on the Beach).

We used to call gin “anger juice.” No effeminate connotations for me, pretty much the opposite. People who drank gin seemed to get into a lot of fights.

I'm 47 F and have never heard of this. DCUM never disappoints in its competition for the dumbest things to ask about.

Not as much of a turn off as a man ordering a cosmo.

Also not a thing.

You should spent less time trying to find red flags in trivial stuff.

All it says to me is that he’s an Anglophile present. Sometimes that’s a good thing sometimes it’s a bad thing.

- or an Apple-tini.

No straight man would order either one.
