Is this—a hat clip—the best option for getting through an airport with a floppy sun hat?
It DOES NOT fit in my bag. I’d prefer to bring it because it covers my back and chest perfectly and protects better than sunscreen; leaving it behind isn’t an option. Are there better ideas? |
I just carried mine in my hand, but that clip would’ve been nice. |
Oh, good to know! It’s only $5 on Amazon, so I figured why not. Can I ask, what did you do with the hat on the flight? Did they let you stick it in the overhead bin? |
Thanks for sharing. My scalp burns like crazy without it, which is one of the reasons I have to bring it. I wish there was a simple solution like this! |
I travel with an unstylish outdoor research hat that folds easily and can be stuffed in a pocket. Once I saw a passenger who had a large floppy hat that she put under the seat. She almost forgot to take it with her until I reminded her. I don’t think there’s much room overhead these days and it would probably get squished. Maybe you can rig that hat holder so it hangs off the seat in front of you if not underneath. |
I wear my hat at the gate or carry it in my hand. Then I put it on top of the suitcase in the overhead bin. There is tons of room on top of any suitcase for a hat. |
Another person who just carries my hat. I generally use an open top tote as my personal item for summer travel, and I can generally fit the hat in that in the plane without crushing it.
I am interested in the hat clip though. I am often check luggage these days so don't usually have a rolling bag past ticketing, but I bet I could find a clip for my tote bag that would free up my hands too. I've had hats the roll up and pack but I'm with OP -- they generally don't offer the same coverage as a big straw hat for the beach or pool, and I really need full coverage because I'm so prone to burning. |
Thanks for this tip. I might forego my usual bag and bring a tote instead. I hadn’t even thought of that as an option, so thanks! |
