Erie - Insurance Premium Increase

Anonymous
So we just got our annual renewal notice from Erie and our Home, Auto and Umbrella went up from $5200 to $7600. No new drivers and no claims.

Anyone else notice a significant increase in insurance premiums?

Any local agents in the DMV you recommend I can shop around with?

Feedback would be much appreciated!

I have home insurance with Erie and it increased 30% this year. I asked why. They said it was because of inflation, which is bullshit, inflation was less than 4 percent last year. I am guessing we are just subsidizing other states that have a lot of losses due to natural disasters but don’t allow big increases in premiums.

Ours also went up $2k. Different company (MMG)

We got our insurance down $2k by increasing our deductible and shopping around. Tried to find an agent but ended up just doing it ourselves.

Our deductibles are already very high and it still went up $2k.

Progressive raised my home policy from 3,300 to 6,200 with no explanation and I have no claims.

I am shopping. So far GEICO and NJM two lowest quotes but still $4,600 a year. Trying to get it closer to 4k.

Suggestions welcome.

Everyone got a free $20k roof from the storm last August. We weren’t going to, but we decided to once we saw our bill for this year and realized we were paying for all the roofs either way.

What deductible is considered high?

We just switched everything to Erie. They offered the best rates. We kept the same coverage as we had with USAA but are saving thousands.

We have $2500 on the house and $1500 on each car. I consider those high but we are thinking of going even higher.

We just shopped insurance and multiple agents said $1k for a car is pretty much the norm now.

2500 deductible on a house that is hundreds of thousands or over a million is not high. More like 7500, 10,000 etc so you really do feel like you share some of the risk and are less likely to file frivolous claims.

Housing prices around here are driven by land cost not replacement cost. At $10k you are pretty much just insuring against fire or hurricane destroying your house, which maybe is all you need but not how home insurance used to be.

We had a house claim with GEICO and had our rates double. Switched both home and auto to Erie and cut the bill from $11k down to $6k annually. We had been with GEICO for 25 years.
