FCC options for 2015 boy

Anonymous
We are considering a move to FCC and trying to find out what the travel soccer options are in the area for our soccer obsessed almost 10-year old. Grateful for any and all tips.

What’s FCC?

If you are talking about Falls Church City the closest travel clubs are going to be McLean, Arlington, Villarreal and Vienna.

Arlington ADP tryouts are also coming up (it's a developmental program that is in-between rec and travel).

Most of the other clubs are done with formal tryouts but you can always reach out and ask to attend a practice. Villarreal in particular holds their formal tryouts the "attend a practice way" so that kids can meet the team and coaches during the practice.

Falls Church plays in the Arlington league. We also know Falls Church kids that play in the Vienna league.

For rec, you’ll sign up through FCC parks and rec website and will be assigned a team. FCC plays in the Arlington league, but you still register through FCC. It’s all parent coached, but overall my kids had a really positive experience and the one who liked soccer went on to play travel.

Depending on where you are located look at FPYC, Arlington, VYS, Annandale, BRYC. All have rec sign up until late August. You can pick any league you want.

Sorry I wasn’t more clear. We are looking for travel soccer options in the Falls Church City area. He practices 3-4 times per week and plays in 3 different leagues now and is very dedicated so he’s looking to be part of that type of environment. We are moving for school reasons.

Arlington, McLean or Vienna all have travel programs.

Of the teams you were recommended (Arlington, McLean, Vienna, Villarreal) - Arlington will have the most intense training environment/schedule, which is sounds like you want. Offers have already gone out for most/all those clubs, so you may be SOL unless your kid is an absolute baller. You should email coaches immediately to see if you can get a look.

How far away are you coming from? Can your existing coach make a few calls for you?

If he needs additional training support while you are in-between clubs, Capstone Soccer (Fallfax Drive) is a few minutes from FCC and has good supplemental training.

Not sure when you are moving but you could also reach out to Arlington/McLean (some of the most competitive boys programs in the area) and see if he could join one of their Super Y teams for the summer to get exposure to the club. I believe they mostly take their own kids for those teams and a few from outside the club.

Good luck OP.

Arlington is probably full, that age group is one of their best already, assuming they don’t lose the kids they had brought over from SYC and other teams before this season.
Vienna would be a really good option though and i bet they are still taking players for individual workouts and placement.

I"d bet ay club will still invite a player to a training session with current teams and then be able to make a decision that way. AT the younger ages, lots of players are unaware of travel soccer or don't think they are interested until their teammates from rec say they are going to travel in the fall, and then parents start considering it after tryouts. Our club is not near Falls Church but we know over the summer we will have kids reaching out. It is totally normal.
