Any local synagogues opposing the Gaza genocide?

Are any local synagogues opposing the Gaza genocide?

I don't want to set foot in a synagogue that flies the Israeli flag.

I am Jewish, not a Zionist.

Every synagogue flies the Israeli flag. You can believe in Isreal and not Netanyahu, just like you can be an American and not believe in Trump.

It's Netanyahu who is making these crazy policies to keep the far right wing coalition together, to keep himself out of jail. Sound familiar? The US president is doing the same thing

Did you just move here? If you’re actually a Jewish resident of DC you should have an idea of your local community’s stance already. Also most Jews understand that there are differences of opinion on Israel but that doesn’t mean they need to boycott the presence of others with different view points.

Ours does not.

Synagogues will all believe in Israel. But you can look for one with differing opinions on the war.

If you don’t believe in a Jewish state, then I don’t think you’re going to find many like minded folks outside of college aged ones.

Technically a synogogue doesn’t believe anything. But yes, most Jewish congregations will have a diversity of views on Israel but will almost all understand why people want a Jewish state even if they disagree.

The reality is that if a synogogue were to be openly against Israel, it would end up having no constituents.

If you are an anti-Zionist as in you don't believe Jews have an ancestral right to their homeland then no, there are no local synagogues that will fit the bill. Perhaps the New Synagogue Project.

If you oppose the war in Gaza and want to see Israel and Palestine come to a diplomatic solution in the region, I would try to find a synagogue that lists organizations like J Street on the Israel section of their website. They are by far the only organization that I have found that aligns with my politics.

Synagogues believe in what the leadership allows and insists on posting on the walls, newsletters, and speeches.

The ancestral homeland of most American Jews, the Ashkenazi, is Eastern Europe.

Tell us you're not Jewish without telling us you're not Jewish...

No, just in DC. OP, if you really need a place where you can be antizionist in a Jewish space, you're going to need to be ok traveling for it. Most synagogues are zionist, because most Jews believe in our own right to self-determination and take seriously the Jewish imperative to care for am Yisrael (the Jewish people).

Israel is an important part of Judaism and while you can probably find synagogues in VA and MD that will have open disagreements with particular actions of the Israeli government (in the same way we disagree with the US government sometimes), believing in Jewish self-determination (Zionism) is the mainstream Jewish position.
