Junior ranger program

Can someone tell me more about it? We are in DMV area. Is that cub scout equivalent but parent led? Cub scout or Junior ranger, which one is better?

Do you mean the National Park Service Jr Ranger badges/patches? It’s not an equivalent to a scouting program.

You visit a National Park and ask for the activity book at the info center. Complete the activities and turn it in to get a park-specific badge/patch. It’s fun for kids, but in no way a formalized program.

And the way things are going, may be cut soon anyway.

If there’s some other Junior Ranger program you were talking about, my apologies. But this is what I thought of when I heard Junior Ranger.

The only thing I’d add to PP is that the ranger swears you mod in with the junior ranger oath which is cool. I hope rather than phasing it out they will just charge for the materials. At least one of the parks charges &2 for the booklet, which seems reasonable and probably a good way to avoid people just talking it if they don’t want to do it.
I’m a huge fan of NPS and the junior ranger program. I’ve been a junior ranger since about 1982.

Op here. I think that is the program I am talking about. Thank you. I am still debating if I have the time to commit to cub scout. DS will not want to sign up anything if I don't plan any.
