Hyde Addison Sibling Preference

What is the likelihood of a child getting in Hyde Addison for Pre K3 if they have two siblings who are attending the school but are not in-bounds. Is it impossible like Brent?

I am curious to know as well.

According to the historic waitlist data they made zero sibling attending waitlist offers in the last 3 years. All of the spots went to in boundary sibling attending or offered. Looks slightly more likely in prek4 and very good for k. So maybe have a plan for prek3.

Hello, thank you. I was trying to understand the data. I didn’t know many in bounds kids attend the school. I heard it has a big out of bounds population.

36 percent of their students are IB

That’s good to know, so hopefully there is a chance for prek3?

Not likely. We know in-bounds folks who were shut out of PK3 in the last two years. You need to be working on a backup plan for September.

In fact, H-A should be your backup plan. If you get off the waitlist for PK3, it will be a happy accident.

There is no chance. See post above about historical waitlist. They do not take any out of bounds even with sibling for prek3. Have another plan.

list it first if it's your first choice, but list other schools or plan to go private. You'd have good odds at Stevens education campus.

Sorry OP, I’d have no hope for HA (put it #1 on your list still). If you don’t have it already make sure Stevens ECE and Francis EC are #2 and #3, then maybe Thomson #4 (recommended solely because they are solid options and not impossibly far away from HA for your commute). Then maybe consider your IB school or any other (including charters) along your commute to/from HA.

PK3 and PK4 are pretty good at all DCPS and it won’t be forever - I’d feel great about getting a K seat at H-A with sibling attending (assuming your older kids will still be there when this one is in K). Its not uncommon for kids do PK3-4 at their IB schools and be fine, then lottery to other schools via sibling preference.

There’s only one PK-3 class at Hyde-Addison, that’s only like 13 seats so it’s all IB siblings. They have two classes for PK-4 so odds slightly better. Three classes for Kinder (and more seats per class) will be your best bet for getting in.

OP here. Thank you so much. This is so helpful. Do you have any other recommendations for what we should put on our list? I am going to include our in bounds school. I heard it’s easier to get in at Prek4 and K is a good chance.

What is your inbounds OP?

OP here, I don’t want to share it for personal reasons. The school is good, and people in their neighborhood send their kids there, but I don’t think it is a good fit for my kids.
