How do you feel about marijuana use by other parents?

Anonymous
We attended a neighborhood barbecue this weekend. The kids range from ages 6-10 and all play very well together. One mom supplied smores, beer and wine for the whole neighborhood. The kids were playing with glow sticks and playing tag, etc. Around 9PM two moms disappeared for about 10 minutes and returned smelling of marijuana; they admitted one bought a CBD/THC joint to share with the other and were giggling about it. The one who bought the marijuana admitted she uses CBD gummies regularly and sometimes “takes a toke” before washing dishes in the evening.

Not sure I’m 100% comfortable on this. How comfortable are you with marijuana use in other parents while children are around? Our kids all play together regularly and mine will sometimes spend hours at her house at a time. She supervises and will make lunch or sometimes surprise the neighborhood with a hot dog or hamburger roast for the kids. I’m very nervous about her potentially being stoned while doing it.

Same as alcohol. Fine in moderation, don't get stupid with it.

Also, look into edibles. Smelling like weed is tacky.

I dislike it, but I also dislike parents drinking while supervising kids. I don't do either but can't control other people.

I wouldn’t have given it a second thought. I think it’s cute. Not something I partake in, but not something that bothers me either.

Low class. And I feel bad for the kids.

I mean, I think it’s a big jump going from having a toke at a barbecue to oh my God she’s stoned while she’s watching my kids. You could just have that conversation with her. It’s OK to have uncomfortable conversations.

Wow a bit defensive aren’t we?

No one said drinking 5 gins at a BBQ is fine. That does not change the fact that pot is a low class drug and yes, it would change my opinion of these moms.

Secondhand smoke is dangerous and there is some concern about thirdhand smoke exposure (smoke residue that clings to surfaces). I would probably discourage indoor playdates and wouldn’t want them over there without me.

What's a high class drug? Cocaine? Xanax? Adderall? Oxy? I know y'all love your adderall!

I don’t hear that parent being defensive. You have no idea if they use any pot products.

I am definitely seeing the hypocrisy of wine and beer ok, weed not! Honestly alcohol is pretty debilitating and yet there is not being a question of a wine soaked weenie roast.
