Did you lose it while breastfeeding or after you weaned? Did you experience any issues with milk supply if you tried to diet while BFing? Did the weight "just fall off" or was it something you had to actively work for? Looking to hear all experiences from moms |
Also, if you feel like sharing, what was your pre-baby weight/ pregnancy weight/ post baby weight? |
15 years |
At some point you can't blame pregnancy for that, PP. |
At which point? Anyway, I weigh less now than pre-baby. Having a baby messed up my thyroid and it took forever to figure out medically. |
That's more of a thyroid issue then. |
First baby: started around 130 (maybe a touch higher), delivered at 155, lost about 20 of that within a few weeks and then the last 5 by the time my baby was 6 months. He was combo fed.
Second baby: started at same weight as before first kid, delivered at 165. I lost 15 pounds within a few weeks, then dropped another 10 very suddenly right around 12 weeks. I've got 10 left and my baby is 6 months. She's EBF. I haven't bothered doing anything with my diet. I get VERY hungry from breastfeeding and will get lightheaded if I don't eat every few hours. I figure I can worry about it after I wean. It doesn't feel worth it over 10 pounds, but YMMV. Also this is probably the only time I can eat whatever I want without gaining weight, so might as well enjoy it. |
I didn’t get on a scale but lost all the weight enough to fit into my old clothes before maternity leave ended. |
First baby at age 32: Started at 128, delivered at 165. He was a big baby, exclusively BF, and a voracious nurser, and he stayed big throughout infancy. I lost all the weight in less than a month-- it was amazing. I did nothing, in fact I was eating constantly. During his first year, I dropped down to under 120, a weight I hadn't seen since high school, while eating heartily (including getting up in the middle of the night to eat sometimes lol). After my period returned when he was 13 months, my weight slowly returned to 128.
Second baby, age 37: Started at 128, again delivered around 165. He was also a big baby and exclusively BF but not a big eater like DS1. I dropped about 20 pounds quickly, then slowly lost 10 over the first few months, and the remaining 8 stuck around for a while. I think I got back to my starting weight, or near it, around 6-8 months. I didn't really diet per se, but I wasn't eating like I did with DS1 either. Both kids BF well past a year, no supply problems with either baby. |
It took me around 3 months and fell off pretty effortlessly. |
My youngest is 20 and I'm still carrying around the baby weight |
I gained 15lb with my first and 11 lb with my second, by 2 weeks postpartum I was 2-3 lb lower than baseline.... but breastfeeding makes me ravenous. I ended up around 3-5 lb post baseline from nursing my first before getting pregnant again. Currently nursing baby 2 so tbd...I wouldn't dare try to diet while nursing. I need soooo much extra food right now |
16 months, though I lost all but that last couple pounds in the first 6 months. Did light exercise and gave formula. |
Started at 125, went up to 160 by the time I delivered. Lost it all pretty easily within 2 months of birth. Then went back to work and packed on 45 lbs in five months. It’s been two years and the scale hasn’t budged. |
This kind of thing is so common though. Don’t make new moms feel bad if the weight doesn’t “fall off.” It’s so normal to have a hard time losing weight or for it to take a long time to lose. |
