Exeter and Andover students

If these types of students are no longer guaranteed admissions to Ivys, where are they mostly going to instead? The college destinations are all spread out so maybe these kids can be happier. If someone got into HYP a generation ago, they would just go there. But since they can’t just go to HYP by default they can be freer in their choices. So maybe one kid likes the mountains and chooses Middlebury. Another kid wants California and urban and goes to USC. And another might choose UT Austin for a southern school. This freeing up in choices should be a food experience

okay?

also these schools limit the apps a kid can submit. so if you know you're not a Harvard legacy with a 4.0, you move on mentally by 10th grade. I think that part is healthier

I don't think that is the reality. There was a suicide earlier this year. The competition got a lot more fierce over there at the Phillips. Mental well being is a serious issue for students in elite high schools.

It’s just not a southern place, unless you’re in east Texas. But, there’s is a Exeter grad going to university of South Carolina!

St. Andrews. They all go to St. Andrews.

I went to one of those schools. Georgetown and UChicago were popular choices for students who still wanted prestige but couldn't get an Ivy. Our Georgetown scattergram was literally exclusively acceptances after a certain GPA (that would put you in the top 30% or so).

Not a single Exeter grad is going this year, so much for “all.”

Kinda at the same school aren’t a monolith.

OP, you make it sound like everyone who ever went to Exeter or Andover ended up at an Ivy until now.
FWIW, my class at Middlebury in the 90s had lots of kids from both schools. In fact, at my 25th reunion, they did an Exeter picture because there were so many alums in my class.
