Does anyone see two different therapists?

Anonymous
I have a therapist who I see weekly. But it's not enough and I feel like I need more emotional support for something I'm going through. I was thinking about finding a second therapist to see in addition, because the first therapist doesn't have space to see me twice a week. I am going through a stressful health situation and don't have as much emotional support as I'd like (only DH and I don't want to overburden him by talking about it all the time). Would this be a good idea? I checked with my health insurance and they allow it.

I have thought about it, only b/c the therapist I see does specific modality (IFS) and I would like to talk to someone else about the more scientific aspects of anxiety. I wouldn't see 2 who do the same thing, personally.

Maybe try an online app for the 2nd therapist?

It’s not uncommon to see a specialty therapist in addition to a “regular “ therapist. So, someone doing weekly psychodynamic sessions might see a different therapist for pain management, family therapy, group therapy, or cognitive behavior therapy to focus on specific issues. Perhaps you could give some thought to the kinds of support that you feel you need — and see if individual or group therapy focused more specifically on your stressful health situation might be helpful? I’m thinking of this as something relatively short term and focused. Have you discussed possible alternatives with your current therapist? They might have access to referral options even if they aren’t able to see you twice a week. You might also want to give some thought to how —or if — you want both therapists to communicate with each other.
