Hi! My son (6) did the tryout with DC Wave and was recommended for the Junior Wave program. Can anyone tell me a bit about it?
Schedule? Location? What do they teach? Can he still compete in meets? Can he start development 1 next season (2026-2027) when he will be 7 or does he need to be 8? Thank you |
Junior Waves is the pre-competition group (no meets) where swimmers are prepared to start the swim team. Believe there are sites at Rumsey, Takoma, Turkey Thicket but they will publish dates/times/locations to the DPR programs when they have programming set for the fall. |
Thank you! Do you know how many times a week they meet? |
Also, while meets are not required, can my son still compete in them? |
I don’t believe so. As for schedule, believe it is once or twice a week but you should be able to reach out to DPR to confirm. Even the Developmental group only practices twice a week. |
Ok thank you! During the tryouts the coaches were all super busy. I was not able to talk to them |
Junior wave is a couple times a week and it’s glorified swim lessons. You need to sign up IMMEDIATELY when signups
open or you won’t get in. |
Most likely not because if it’s a non competitive group you/the club aren’t paying USA swimming membership fee so he won’t be eligible. Plus if he is in a lesson type group he’s likely not ready to swim in a meet. |
No. Junior Wave kids are not on the team. |
Junior wave has zero ties to the DCPR dc wave team. There might be a coach in common. No meets but try out next year! |
